The Millennial Generation (Gen Y) and Anger Management
In today's YMCA many generations are employed at the same time the Silents (born before 1946), Boomers (born 1946-1963), Gen Xs (born 1964-1976) and Gen Ys (born 1977-1986). Often biases and assumptions people have arise from the time period from which they are born, and these can create overwhelming conflicts in the YMCA. Addressing Parental Supervision in the Pool
The Redwoods Group investigations into aquatic incidents discovered six major contributing factors; one was a lack of parental supervision in the pool. Parents sometimes feel that lifeguard supervision is equivalent to that of a babysitter or childwatch. More often parents want to relax by the pool and in doing so are not vigilant at watching their children. Aquatic standards recommend that in-water active parental supervision should be enforced with all non-swimmers. The most common interpretation of "active" supervision is that the parent is within arms reach of the child at all times.
